Happy Tuesday…

I almost feel like a human being again. ALMOST. After being sick for over two weeks. Of course, it feels like it has been much much longer than that. I still run out of energy pretty quickly and can’t really taste food. But the horrible sinus headaches have gone away, finally!!

Just in time for me to have a membership meeting on Thursday. :)

This week….

I am sad the Olympics are over. I feel like I missed a bunch of it with the time difference and the scheduling. Booo. I did get to see a lot of the diving, which I love…gymnastics, track and swimming. I even saw the final match for table tennis. That stuff is amazing! The Chinese are like robots. Especially in the diving. And dude….there is no way their little gymnast girls are 16! Oh well. They got away with it, so time to move on! I did hear some radio talk show guys make an interesting comment the other day….they said that if you look at what the Chinese were dominating in, it was the sports where judges make the decision. A judge gives you a rank based on the impression made upon that judge. The ones the Chinese weren’t so dominant in were the sports where a judge is just overseeing…but doesn’t determine the outcome. Like gymnastics/diving vs. racing. I don’t know how true that would be or not. I just thought it was interesting. But let me tell you…I actually watched the diving, and all the Chinese divers deserved the scores they got. They were amazing. Kind of freakishly good, actually.

Hope the newest hurricane doesn’t come through just in time to ruin my big event next week. That would suck, to say the least.

I am tired of rain. I want to get my car washed, but no there is no point because it is just going to rain and dirty it up again! P.S. I still LOVE LOVE LOVE my car. :)

We have some real crazies at my job. And by crazies, I mean people who are a waste of oxygen. I also mean that quite literally. One of the crazies in particular often talks to herself and mumbles a lot. And doesn’t seem to ever remember conversations you had with her. Hmm.

I am ready for real television shows to come back on. I am sick of reality TV and reruns. Except for Project Runway, of course. :) I am looking forward to the following:

Fringe
Heroes
Bones
Grey’s Anatomy
How I Met Your Mother

I know there are some more, but I forget the names. I saw commercials for a couple I had not heard of yet the other day that sounded really interesting.

On that note, I need DVR!

I want sno-cones. And corn in a cup. :) Damn you, Blanca!

Biggio Jersey Retirement…..*tear*

The Bagwell jersey retirement was, in my opinion, completely depressing. Mainly because of the differences in how they retired. Bagwell really didn’t have a choice…his shoulder made the decision for him. Biggio got to do it the way he wanted…got his 3,000 hits, got to have a last game, etc. I missed the last game, but it was hard enough to watch it on TV. Biggio and Bagwell ARE the Astros. Someone mentioned how rare it would be now for a player to enter the MLB and stay with one team for so long…it is easy to forget how big of a deal that is. Blanca was also at the retirement….she cried, too. :)

Some great pictures are up in the photos section!

Have a good week!

I miss the old Project Runway

Filed under: television — Jill @ 8:50 pm

I don’t like as many of these designers this season. I like Kenley, and Terri and Jerell mainly. But the rest are just kind of there. I miss Laura! And Christian! And Jillian! And Jeffrey! And Michael!

Booooooooo

Other shows I cannot get enough of:

Torchwood

Doctor Who

The Dresden Files

Bones

MI5

Angel

Buffy

No fat people in the Olympics?

Filed under: News, television — Jill @ 1:59 pm

Well, duh. I mean, come ON….people find all sorts of stuff to complain about. :) I really like how supposedly the ratings are good JUST because the primetime sports have pretty, toned, athletic people competing. Well, DUH, again.  Isn’t this the Olympics? A worldwide ATHLETIC event?? I did find the commentator funny during the women’s synchronized platform diving last night. The Canadian girls were not the typical tiny divers…they looked like normal girls. Not fat or chunky by any means…but they had thighs, hips, like normal people do. And the commentator kept saying how much harder it is for them to have less splash, and she kind of hesitated and then said “Because they aren’t as streamlined.” Haha…nice way of calling them nonskinny!! I did enjoy this quote from the Houston Chronicle today, about Michael Phelps:

When the 23-year-old swimmer lowered the top of his Speedo LZR Racer suit to a full foot below his navel Sunday night in cheering his teammate in the final leg of the 4X100 relay, he looked like a 21st-century version of Michelangelo’s David. He also veered dangerously close to R-rated territory. Straight women and gay men across the nation were reaching for their smelling salts.

Phelps is a MONSTER

Seriously. Did anyone else watch him win another Gold last night?? He is freakin amazing.

Also, way to go for the men’s gymnastics team. Or as I like to call them, the mini people. Seriously. They look like these big, burly men that have just been shrunk. As opposed to just being short. There is a difference.

P.S. I got reminded about shrink-a-dinks. That is exactly what the men gymnasts seem like! I had forgotten all about those things.

Swimming relay….4X100….

Just can’t get ahead…

I swear, the Astros are the hard luck team of the MLB. Every time things seem to be moving in a positive direction, something bad happens. They have been winning and doing pretty well since the all-start break, and now Lee has a broken hand and is out for the season. And yes, I know, it isn’t like they would have made the post-season. But it is just one more bad thing to happen to destroy momentum…both for the team’s morale and for Lee himself.

BOOOOOO

Weather coverage…

Filed under: News — Jill @ 11:31 am

Wow…I have been watching all the backlash that the news stations have been receiving today because of their overly dramatic Edouard coverage, and I am finding it HILARIOUS. I mean, while I was watching the coverage and then looking outside at the rain, I did notice quite the discrepency. I agree that some people are saying that it is kind of like the boy who cried wolf….that the next time people won’t get worried, and then it will actually turn out bad. And yes, I know, that they are just providing predictions based on data, and things change….but come ON, did they really need to be so dramatic?? Once the storm arrived and it was obviously not as bad as they were predicting, the live feeds and every-second coverage should have been scrapped. But nope…we still got reporters on locations showing water and wind…and pretty much finding ANY little thing to report on, just to have a story! Ridiculous!

Lindsey is a MOM

Filed under: Home — Jill @ 9:56 am

And yes, I know I posted that back when she actually became a mom two months ago, but I got to witness it first-hand this weekend. :) And little Isaiah is PRECIOUS. So freakin cute!!! Although it was super weird watching Lindsey change diapers and make bottles. Hahaha. She is doing a great job!!
